Dr. Rebecca Stanton, Education Lead, My Dad’s Garage
Ed.D., Argosy University, Instructional Leadership. Team Leader for Education and Curriculum Advisory Board - Dr. Stanton has been a professor in the School of Education at Concordia University, Irvine, since 2005, specializing in secondary teaching methods, classroom management, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, and differentiated instruction. Beyond her teaching duties, she supervises student teachers in public and private K-12 schools, and guides students as they write their Masters capstone projects. She presents on various teaching strategies at local, regional, and national conferences. Prior to coming to CUI, Dr. Stanton taught German and beginning drama for 9 years at the high school level, and math and science for one year at the junior high school level. She enjoyed taking students on educational trips to Europe and New York City. Dr. Stanton earned her BA in German with a minor in Russian from the University of Arizona, her MA in German Literature from UC Irvine, and her California Teaching Credential from Concordia University, Irvine. She also completed one year of post graduate study in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching at UofA, and then earned her Doctor of Education - Instructional Leadership degree from Argosy University, Orange County, specializing in mentoring new teachers.

Dr. Linda McCorkel Clinard, Education Advisory Board, My Dad’s Garage
Ph.D., University of Michigan, Curriculum Development and Teacher Education;  M.S. in reading education from Indiana University; B.A. in K-8 education from Biola University, California - Dr. Clinard has served as an elementary and secondary classroom teacher and reading specialist in California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, and overseas for the Department of Defense Schools in Germany and Okinawa. Dr. Clinard taught reading/literacy education courses for Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and the University of California, Irvine, School of Education. She received numerous awards, including the Biola University Lifetime Achievement Award, the California Reading Association Margaret Lynch Community Service Award, the Orange County (California) Reading Association “Outstanding Contribution to Reading Award,” the Michigan “International Reading Association Literacy Award,” and two other IRA awards. She retired from UCI in 2007 after serving for seven years as site director of the California Reading and Literature Project in the UCI Center for Educational Partnerships. As CRLP director, she facilitated professional development for PreK - Grade 12 educators with a goal of developing literacy leaders and improving reading, writing, and other literacy skills for all students. Dr. Clinard currently serves as an early literacy consultant and delivers presentations for schools and the community that focus on school-to-home communication, “everyday literacy,” and literacy across the curriculum. She uses Family Time Reading Fun, in which the strategies are linked to the California Preschool Desired Results Developmental Profile measures and/or K-5 Common Core State Standards. She shares in her presentations what she has learned as a parent/grandparent (a daughter and twin sons, three grandchildren), classroom teacher, reading specialist, university lecturer, researcher, and professional development leader to produce down-to-earth, everyday literacy information and strategies for all audiences. Linda also brings to her work insights gained from her mother, who came to the U.S. from Mexico at age eight and faced the challenges of learning English. Dr. Clinard trains educators and parent leaders by modeling for them what she has learned to be most effective in engaging families and children from multiple cultures and different socio-economic backgrounds.

Dr. Giovanni Hortura, Education Advisory Board, My Dad’s Garage
Ph.D., University of California, Irvine, in Twentieth-Century Latin American and United States History, with an emphasis in Critical Theory; CSU Long Beach, Long Beach, MA coursework in U.S. and Latin American History; CSULB, BA in Philosophy, with Honorable Mention Areas of Concentration: Existentialism, Metaphysics, Ethics, Epistemology, plus a minor in History - Dr. Hortura worked with Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), a program for entering high school students from low income backgrounds that exposes them to a host of topics impacting their environment. He also worked with Humanities Out There (HOT), a program that links the Santa Ana Unified School District with UCI in an effort to bring to public school classrooms an alternative to looking at World History. He was program leader for THINK Together, working with middle school students inculcating different facets of cultural studies and power as well as sports and fitness. Much of the work also involved African American high school students, focusing on completing their assignments as well as ensuring that they raised their grades to graduate competitively to move on to a four year college. Dr. Hortua is professionally qualified in Spanish-English language interpretation for Spanish-only speaking medical consultations, legal translation/interpretation, and educational services.

Dr. Michael Schulteis, Education Advisory Board, My Dad’s Garage
Sc.Ed.D. (Doctor of Science Education), Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Australia; MA, Curriculum and Instruction, BA (Biology), and California teaching credential all from Concordia University, Irvine – Prof. Schulteis has been at Concordia University since 2003, teaching in the School of Education and specializing in Science and Mathematics education as well as classroom management. He currently serves as the Director of Undergraduate Teacher Education Programs. Prior to arriving at CUI, he taught at the junior high school level as a 7th grade homeroom teacher teaching multiple subjects and as a science specialist for grades 6-8. At the high school level, Dr. Schulteis taught chemistry and biology, and he was a coach and the taxidermy club advisor. He is a mentor for the American Meteorological Society Datastreme program. He is also a sought-after seminar presenter and has made presentations to teachers from across the United States and from around the world, including teachers from Korea, Japan, China, South Africa, and Australia. Dr. Schulteis’ wife also teaches at CUI and is in the Mathematics Department.

Christine Grantz, Education Advisory Board, My Dad’s Garage
California State University Fullerton, MA Educational Leadership, with Administrative Credential;  CSU Long Beach, BA in Liberal Arts with a minor in Psychology – Ms. Grantz has been the International Baccalaureate Coordinator at Carl Hankey K-8 IB World School since 2009.  She is also currently the 6th grade MYP Science teacher, as well as Secondary Teaching Assistant Principal II (STAP II). Beyond these duties, she has served in positions for the Capistrano Unified School district as a BTSA Support Provider for new teachers, professional development instructor and developer, and within other district planning groups. She has served for the University of Redlands and Cal State Fullerton as a Master Teacher within the new teacher credential programs. Prior to becoming a middle school teacher and coordinator for the International Baccalaureate Programme, Ms. Grantz was an elementary teacher for 10 years in grades 2-5.  Within the Capistrano Unified School District, she has been awarded Teacher of the Year at both the elementary and middle school levels (2005 and 2010).

Marilyn Harvey, Education Advisory Board, My Dad’s Garage
Arizona State University, MA Secondary Education/ Biology; UC Davis, BS Biological Sciences. - Lyn has been an award winning, credentialed classroom teacher of AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Honors Calculus, Analytical Geometry, Physical Science, General Chemistry, Zoology, Organic Chemistry, Statistics, and Genetics. She was the California State Science Fair Teacher of the Year, 1992. Before retiring, she served as the Capistrano Valley High School Science Olympiad Coach, on the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair Board of Directors, as the CVHS Future Scientists and Engineers of America Advisor, and on the Capistrano Unified School District Chemistry Curriculum Committee.

Emily Sonderegger, Education Advisory Board, My Dad’s Garage
BA, Idaho State University, Elementary Education; BA, Brigham Young University, Archaeology; Idaho teaching credential - Ms. Sonderegger taught third grade in the Madison School District in Rexburg, Idaho, for two years and is currently teaching fourth grade in the district. She has worked as an adult, young adult, and children’s electronic resources librarian at the Madison Library District in Rexburg. Some of her greatest joys come from recommending a book to a child and having them come back to the classroom to report that they read the whole thing and moved on to more books in the series.

Tony Vezner, Advisor, Theater Arts, My Dad’s Garage
Indiana University, Bloomington, MFA in Directing; University of Louisville, B.A. in English and Theatre Arts - studied at the University of Birmingham’s summer Shakespeare course in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. - Tony has directed over sixty productions for professional, community,  and university stages. He teaches acting, directing, and dramaticliterature and directs productions for the season. He is a Theater Professor at Concordia University, Irvine, where his credits include Dancing at Lughnasa, Metamorphoses, The House of Blue Leaves, The Arsonists, and the award-winning Hamlet. Tony is a recipient of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Excellence in Education award. Tony was previously co-artistic director of Circle Theatre, a Chicago area non-Equity professional theatre. While he was at Circle, thetheatre garnered seven Joseph Jefferson Citations. Simultaneously, he served as artistic director of the Theatre of Western Springs, a large community theatre. There he co-founded a lecture series featuring top professionals and launched a play development program. He then became producing artistic director of an Equity theater, New American Theater. Locally, he has directed professionally for the Chance Theater. Tony has given workshops for Christians in Theatre Arts conferences and sat on panels for the Chicago Director’s Forum and the Bailiwick Directors’  Festival.
